100 electric buses to join Nagar Paribahan fleet: Taposh

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said that 100 double-decker electric buses will be joining the Dhaka Nagar Paribahan service by this year.

This initiative will accelerate the step of the making Dhaka city as environment friendly smart city, he added.
He gave the information at a press conference following the 27th meeting of the bus route rationalization committee on Tuesday.
He said that strict measures will be taken to ensure the quality of passenger service and ensure order by removing the obstacles in the city transport.

Bus route rationalization committee is working to bring discipline in the Dhaka city bus service. The committee has introduced the bus route in the name of ‘Dhaka Nagar Paribahan.’ Initially the service has got the passengers laude, but later various irregularities has seen.
Over the issue, Mayor Taposh said to the journalists, “Despite few irregularities, the Nagar Paribahan bus are plying with proud and passengers satisfaction.”

“After detecting little obstacle, we are very cordial to solve these problems. You will be glad to hear that fresh 100 electric buses will join in the nagar paribahan fleet.”

Late mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq took the initiative to run buses under the route-based company in 2015. After his death on November 30, 2017, the then mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Sayeed Khokon was given the responsibility of managing the bus route rationalization committee.

Executive Director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority Sabiha Parveen, Chairman of BRTA Noor Mohammad Majumdar, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Tajul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation Mizanur Rahman, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. Munibur Rahman, chief engineer of the Directorate of Roads and Township Ishaq, public transport expert SM Saleh Uddin, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association President Khandkar Enayet Ullah, Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association President Ajmal Uddin Ahmed etc.
