3 youths awarded RI for life in Bagerhat

S M Saiful Islam, judge, Anti Women and Children Repression Tribunal-1, Bagerhat, in a judgment delivered on Sunday noon, convicted 3 debauched youths and sentenced them to suffer rigorous imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Tk.10 lakh each in default to suffer another rigorous imprisonment for one year more on the charge of committing gang rape with a NGO worker and recording the obscene pictures in a video camera in order to black-mail her. The convicted youths are Md. Mamun Shaikh, son of Sher Ali of village Jaria-Maitkumra, Md. Firoj Nikari, son of one Miraj Nikari of village of village Choto Khajura and Ibrahim Biswas, son one Mujibur Biswas of village Vatto-Baliaghata under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district. Out of them Firoj Nikari is in hide.
The prosecution case, in short, is that at the night of October 10, 2020 some debauched youths committed gang rape with a NGO worker forcibly who was sleeping alone in a rented house at the village Jaria-Maitkumra under Fakirhat Upazila and recorded the obscene pictures in a video camera in order to black-mail her. In this connection the victim NGO worker lodged a case with Fakirhat Model PS mentioning the names of 3 youths in the following day.
Police of the PS arrested accused Md. Mamun Shaikh and Ibrahi Biswas within a few days. But accused. But the accused Firoj Nikari was absconding. Police investigated into the matter and submitted a charge sheet to the court in time.
The learned judge after examine the evidences and witnesses found the accused persons guilty and awarded them the aforesaid punishment.
