Father, son shot dead over land dispute

A father and son were allegedly shot and injured over a dispute over paddy harvesting in Osmaninagar Upazila Sylhet District. Police have arrested one person and recovered the firearm in this incident.
The arrested Zakir Ahmad (34) is the son of deceased Maina Mia of Mollapara (Chebarpara) village of the upazila. In this incident, a case was filed under the relevant law at the Osmaninagar police station on Saturday night. Osmaninagar police station has two more cases against the arrested Zakir Ahmed including attempted murder. According to local and police sources, on Saturday (April 30) at noon, Jalal Uddin of Mollapara village of the upazila was cutting paddz with laborers in his Barga cultivated land. Meanwhile, Zakir Ahmad of the same village stopped Jalal Uddin from harvesting paddy with his firearm. As Jalal Uddin and his son Naeem Mia protested, Zakir Ahmad fired a firearm at Jalal Uddin and his son Naeem Mia.
Jalal Uddin and his son Naeem Mia were shot and injured. The sound of gunshots spread panic in the village. On receiving the information, the Thana Police rescued the injured and sent them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital and arrested Zakir Ahmad in a raid. 1 locally made wooden butt active one shooter pipe gun, 06 rounds of fresh red cartridges, 1 green cartridges were recovered from the false ceiling of the toilet inside the living room of Zakir.
In this regard, on Sunday (April 30) morning, Osmani Nagar police station SI Sabinoy Vaidya said that Zakir Ahmad was arrested in the incident of shooting and injuring two people. A case has been filed at the police station in this incident.
