Najmul Hossain Shanto’s century guided Dhaka Abahani Limited to crush City Club by five wickets in their cricket match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at BKSP Ground-4 in Savar on Sunday.
Dhaka Abahani Limited led the points table collecting 20 points from 11 matches.
Shanto remained unbeaten with 102 runs. His 112-ball innings had 11 fours and three sixes. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning knock.
Chasing City Club’s paltry total of 172 in 39.2 overs, Dhaka Abahani Limited sailed home making 174 for the loss of five wickets when they had 89 balls to spare.
Abahani lost their early two wickets for seven runs.
One-down Najmul Hossain Shanto and second-down Mahmudul Hasan Joy repaired the damage contributing together 105 runs for the third wicket partnership before Joy was dismissed by Robiul Haque when Abahani’s total was 112 for the loss of three wickets.
Joy knocked fine 39. His 69-ball innings had four fours.
Later, Shanto and Mosaddek Hossain added together 30 runs in the five-wicket stand before Mosaddek Hossain (11) was dismissed by Robiul Haque when Abahani’s score was 142 for the loss of five wickets.
After Mosaddek’s dismissal, Shanto and Rishad Hossain guided their team to reach the winning spot adding together 32 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket partnership.
Rishad Hossain remained unbeaten with 12 runs.
Robiul Haque was his team’s most successful bowler with four wickets in the space of 38 runs.
Earlier, City Club had a modest start as openers Moinul Islam and Tawfique Khan put on together 39 runs in the opening stand before Moinul Islam (6) was caught & bowled by Tanvir Islam.
After Moinul Islam’s departure, Tawfique Khan and Shahriar Komol contributed together 49 runs for the second wicket partnership before Komol (11) was bowled out by Nahidul Islam when City Club’s score was 89 for the loss of two wickets.
Later, City Club batters failed to make any notable partnership.
Tawfique Khan hit a marvelous 79. His 51-ball innings was belted with six sixes and seven fours.
Rishad Hossain captured four wickets in the space of 29 runs, while Mosaddek Hossain and Tanvir Islam bagged two wickets each instead of 21 and 28 runs respectively.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Nahidul Islam took one wicket each for 22 and 30 runs respectively.
