ARSA commander killed in Rohingya camp shootout

A suspected commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was shot dead in a reported gunfight between members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and the members of a gang in Rohingya camp at Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Mazid alias Lalaia, (34), son of one Nurul Amin, also an alleged ARSA commander, Camp-13, Block-E/3.
Armed Police Battalion (APBn)-8 Assistant Police Super Md Faruk Ahmed confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday afternoon (April 11).
Faruk Ahmed said, acting on secret information, a team comprising 20-25 policemen conducted a drive in the camp this morning. Meanwhile, ARSA gang opened fire aiming at the police team which triggered a gunfight, leaving one dead on the spot. Later, three more ARSA members were arrested from the area.
A fire arm, two rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot. Additional police forces were deployed in the area. The situation is under control now, he added.
