A Bangladeshi man was shot dead and another injured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Rabiul Islam, (50), son of one Chenu Mia of Kalabagan area in Burimari upazila while the injured is Shahidul, (30), son of one Hedul Mia of the same area.
According to locals, about five Bangladeshi men entered Medical Bridge area inside Indian territory near Shamsernagar border pillar.
Sensing their presence, BSF members opened fire on them, leaving one dead and another wounded.
Lieutenant Colonel AM Mahbubul Alam Khan, commanding officer of Teesta Battalion-2 of Border Guard Bangladesh-61,confirmed the matter to the media and said that a man was allegedly shot dead and another hurt by the BSF personnel near the border.
They were inquiring into the matter, and details in this regard will be informed later, he added.
Omar Faruque, Officer in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station said; the body was recovered from the border and brought to the police station, and the injured was rushed to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for treatment.
