64 Bangladeshis in Interpol’s red notice Arav will be added soon: Police

Syed Shemul Parvez :
There are 64 names of Bangladeshis in the wanted list on the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol)’s website. They are accused of various crimes including militancy, terrorism, murderers, cybercrimes, drug smuggling, financial crimes and human trafficking. The list includes the names of killers of Bangabandhu as well as some names of war criminals.
Interpol normally coordinates the police forces of different countries in the world. It is the second largest international organization after the United Nations. This organization has published the names and photos of 64 Bangladeshis due to the cooperation sought by the Bangladesh Police. Interpol is trying to know the current location of these persons on the list. After that they will be arrested according to the local law and sent back to the country in legal process.
At present, Interpol has come to the limelight in the country due to a gold trader Arav Khan, the absconding accused in the murder case of Special Branch (SB) Inspector Mamun Imran Khan, who is on the run in Dubai.
Recently Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said that Bangladesh Police has written to Interpol to issue a red notice against Arav Khan alias Rabiul Islam alias Apan alias Hriday. If a red notice is issued in his name, the name of 65 criminals of Bangladesh will appear in the wanted list of Interpol.
In this regard, Manzur Rahman, AIG (Media and Publication Relation) of Police Headquarters told The New Nation that if the police or any unit concerned with the investigation inform that the accused has fled abroad and it is necessary to bring him back, then the cooperation of Interpol is taken. Regular contact is maintained with the police of that country through Interpol regarding the location and arrest of criminals. When the position is confirmed, the concerned country is contacted directly.
As part of the procedure, a letter has already been sent to Interpol from the police headquarters. They also received our letter and returned mail. It takes three to four days to update the photo and information of a new criminal on the Interpol website.
Hopefully, Arav Khan’s photo will be seen in Interpol’s wanted person category very soon.
Our utmost efforts will continue to bring such criminals including Arav Khan. But it’s a matter of long time as we have to maintain some international rules to implement the action, AIG Manzur added.
Interpol normally helps to ascertain the criminal as well the country where they are staying. Interpol is assisted by a branch of the police headquarters called the National Central Bureau (NCB). This branch works with various countries to exchange various information about criminals who are on the Interpol list.
The NCB wing of the police headquarters received information about one or two people being detained in India, Dubai and Nepal. But it is not possible to bring them all back.
In India Mullah Masod, Shahadat, Tanvirul Islam Joy, in Nepal Subrata Bain, in Dubai Jisan and Ataur have been caught, but they are still missing because of the loopholes in the law of that country.
According to the relevant sources, the terrorists hiding abroad are using multiple passports.
Even after top terrorist Jisan Ahmed Monti alias Jisan was arrested in Dubai on October 3, 2019, he could not be brought back to the country. A week later, Jisan left for London after being released on bond.
