Transport owners demand withdrawal of SD

The Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Malik Samity (BSPMS) proposed for reducing import duty to 10 per cent and withdrawing supplementary duty on radial imports in the upcoming budget for fiscal year (2023-24).
It came up with the demands in a pre-budget discussion with the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, at the latter’s office in the city on Tuesday.
The association also proposed to fix the tariff at $2 in both per kg radial and non-radial tires.
“There is now a tariff of $3.50 on per kg radial tires and $3 on per kg non-radial tires, and 15 per cent import duty, 10 per cent supplementary duty, 15 per cent VAT, 5 per cent advance tax and 5 per cent advance trade VAT (ATV) are imposed on such tires imports,” it stated.
The transport owners proposed to fix a specific HS code against engines used in motor vehicles imports and set the import duty at 3 percent, and withdrawal of the import duty on spare parts.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association proposed for fixing corporate tax at 10 per cent, reducing source tax to 2 per cent and exempting import duties on capital equipment and spare parts for container handling.
Bangladesh Automobiles Assemblers & Manufacturers Association demanded bonded warehouse facilities to the local automobile manufacturers and reducing import duty to 5 per cent on commercial vehicles.
Aviation Operators Association of Bangladesh (AOAB) proposed for withdrawing the existing 5 per cent advance tax on aircraft and its parts including helicopters imports.
It also urged to waive all sorts of customs, import duties and advance taxes on domestic flights.
Bangladesh Computer Samity proposed for duty-free facilities in a bid to establish robotic industry in the country.
There is 26.2 per cent import duty on the industrial robots imports. “If the manufacturing companies pay AT on the manufacturing before selling the goods, it will not only be a challenge but also the invested capital will be at risk,” it said.
