Exhibition focuses on history of photography in Khulna at Drik Gallery

Drik Picture Library has organised
the week-long photography exhibition titled ‘Khulnar Alokchitro Chorcha: Itihaser Poth Beye’ under way at the Drik Gallery of the DrikPath Bhaban in the capital’s Shukrabad area, said a press release.
The exhibition focuses on the evolution of photography in Khulna between 1930 and 2000. The exhibition features selected works of photographers Bimal Kumar Dey, Tushar Kanti Roy, Nurul Haque Lavlu, Simson S Adhikari,
Sohel Mahmud, Abdul Badi Tulu
as well as Retina and Abhisar Studios.
Along with that, 170 photographs
dating back half a century were
selected from the personal collections of veteran photographers like Tushar Kanti Roy Chowdhury, Md
Nurul Haque Lablu, Bimol Kumar Dey, Abdul Badi Tulu, among others. Photographs from the collections
of Retina and Abhisar Studios are
also on display at the exhibition.
The oldest photo at the exhibition is taken by Tushar Kanti Roy Chowdhury when he, along with his friends, went
to Premkanon at Jora Gate of Khulna
city in 1960. It has been learned from the Facebook post of Shahidul Alam
that Tushar Roy Chowdhury
passed away recently.
Apart from it, many pictures of during 1962, 1965, 1970, the Liberation War, and later have been placed in the exhibition. The photographs were collected by Drik as a part of an initiative, which aims at archiving the history of the practice of photography in Khulna city. The exhibition will remain open to all every day from 3:00pm to 8:00pm till March 19.
