SCBA election begins today

The two-day annual election to the 14-member executive committee, including President and Secretary posts, of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) will begin on Wednesday.
The voting will start around 10:00 am in SCBA building and continue till 5:00 pm with a one-hour break, said SCBA’s superintendent Md Rabiul Hasan. A total of 8,589 lawyers are set to cast
their votes in the election, he said. SCBA sources said the main contest would take place between panels of ruling Awami League-backed Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and pro-BNP Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel.
Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad has nominated senior lawyer and incumbent SCBA President Md Momtazuddin Fakir and incumbent Secretary Md Abdun Nur Dulal as candidates for the posts of President and Secretary respectively.
Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel has chosen former SCBA Secretary and Senior lawyer AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan and former Secretary Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal for the posts of President and Secretary respectively.
Also, lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akond is contesting as independent candidate for the post of President.
