Weekly kitchen market: Prices of daily essentials become costlier

There is no good news from kitchen market as all most all daily essentials commodities price hike one more time ahead of holy Ramzan.
The people from low income group fear that daily essentials price will go beyond their buying capacity in the holy month of fasting.
During the visit of Taltola kitchen market, this reporter asked Hosein Mia, a grocery shop owner, about the price hike of the common items.
Hosein Mia said how much the daily essentials price being hiked? Already all items rate were skyrocketing.
When asked about the reduce of price daily commodities, Hosein Mia’s reply was its type of country where increased rate never decreased.
Hosein Mia’s close neighbor Sultan Mia said during one week, the price of gram, Anchor Dal, pea-flour and Tang price have increased more. And Flour, sugar and oil price remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, the price of gram in the market has increased by Tk 10 to Tk 15 per kg in the last one month. A month ago gram was sold at the rate of Tk 80-85 per kg, which is now Tk 95-100. Along with chickpeas, the price of chickpeas also increased by Tk 5-10. Chickpeas are being sold at Tk 90 to Tk 95 per kg in the market.
Apart from this, anchor dal has increased by Tk 10 to Tk 70-80 per kg and similarly the price of pea-flour has increased by Tk 100 to Tk 105 per kg.
On the other hand, the broiler chicken price reached all time high in the country’s history. People from low income group people forced to cut off chicken meat from their menu.
Broiler chicken is main source of protein of common people of the country.
Even though, the beef price also reached all time high in the country as it is being sold at Tk 850 to Tk900 different area in the country.
A plastic company worker from Lalbagh area Md Joynal Abedin yesterday went to new market kitchen market to buy daily essentials. He felt helpless knowing the soaring prices of different essentials.
With his Tk 1,000, he wanted to buy chicken, sugar, pulse, potato, onion, ginger and egg.
He found that different breeds of poultry chicken were sold at about Tk 80 a kg higher than the price was two weeks earlier.
Traders were asking Tk 260 for a kg of broiler chicken and Tk 320 for a kg of Sonali chicken, Joynal said.
“This frustrates me. How will people like me survive if prices of essentials are skyrocketing?” he added.
Similarly, according to standards, a kg of rui-katla has increased to Tk 350-400. Farmed tilapia pangash is also not available for less than Tk 200.
Meanwhile, the price of lemon has increased in the vegetable market before the start of Iftar. One Hali lemon is being sold for Tk 50-80 depending on the size. The price of brinjal is also increasing due to the same reason. A kg of round eggplant is being sold at Tk 80-100. But long brinjal is Tk 50-70, which has increased by around Tk 20 in a week.
