The historic 7th March was observed in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas in a befitting manner on Tuesday as else where of the country, commemorating the land mark speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman, which was touched as an indirect declaration of the country’s independence in 1971.
On March 7 in 1971, the great leader Sheikh Mujib, the architect of independent Bangladesh, in his historic address at a mammoth rally in the then Race Course (now Suhrawardy Udyan), directed the freedom-loving Bangalees for waging a decisive struggle against the then Pakistan occupation forces.
Bagerhat District, Paurashvas and Upazila units of Bangladesh Awami League, Chatra League, Jubo League, Sramik League, Woman League Tanti Leauge and other organizations, different socio-cultural and professional bodies chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
The day long programmes included hoisting of national and party flags atop the party offices, placing of floral wreaths at portraits of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman, discussion meetings and special prayers held in the mosques, temples and Churches for the salvation of the departed souls of Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman, his family members and others who sacrificed their lives in the War of Independence of the country. On the occasion a lively discussion meeting was held at the local Swadhinata Udyan on the significance of the day under the auspices of Bagerhat Zila Parishad with Mohammad Azizur Rahman, DC, Bagerhat in the chair. It was addressed among others by Asaduzzaman , Additional Police Super, Bagerhat, Adv. Hemayet Uddin Bhuiya, General Secretary of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami league, Rizia Parveen, Upazila Woman Vice-chairman, Bagerhat Sadar and Awami leader Akhtaruzzaman Baschu.
BSS from Gaibandha reports: The historic March 7 was observed in the district as elsewhere of the country Tuesday day in a befitting manner with a vow to materialize the dream of Father of the Nation and architect of Independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Marking the day, district administration chalked out the elaborate rogrammes.
The day’s programmes began with the hoisting of national and party flags atop of the party office buildings and placing wreaths by whip of the Jatiya Sangsad at the portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
Then, District Administration led by deputy commissioner (DC) Oliur Rahman, district police led by superintendent of police (SP) Md. Kamal Hossain, Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, led by president Abu Bakar Siddique and Gaibandha Municipality led by mayor Md. Matlubour Rahman placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu in phases.
Then, a grand rally was brought out from there that ended in front of Zila Shilpakala Academy after parading the main roads of the district town.
