Student dies, 50 hurt as picnic bus overturns in Netrokona

A student was killed and 50 others injured as a madrasa picnic bus overturned at Durgapur upazila in Netrokona district on Wednesday morning.
The accident took place at Lakshmipur Bazaar area of the upazila at around 11.30 am.
Deceased student was identified as Himel Sheikh, 10, was son of Rahim Sheikh, hailed from Jagatkuri village of Bhuapur upazila of Tangail district.
Quoting locals and the madrasa teachers, Durgapur Police Station officer-in-charge Shibirul Islam said a Suwad transports bus was going to a picnic spot at Durgapur upazila from Mymensingh’s Muktagacha upazila carrying 73 students of Baitul Quba Madrasa. When it reached Lakshmipur Bazaar, the bus overturned as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving one dead and 50 others injured.
Later, being informed, firefighters and police took the injured to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Himel dead and referred some of the injured to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as their condition was critical, the OC added.
