Govt trying to divert movement by countrywide explosions: Fakhrul

Staff Reporter :
The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has blamed that the repeated major explosions that occurred in the country are to divert the ongoing democratic movement against the government raised by the people for restoration of voting rights.
Besides, such explosions happened to mislead the people as people are raising voices against price hike of daily commodities which are beyond the people’s affordability.
Such explosions in Dhaka and Chattogram are nothing but the total failure of the government, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters after a meeting with the leaders of the Democratic Left Alliance held at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Sunday.
“There was an explosion yesterday in Sitakunda and today (Sunday) in Dhaka. Why are the explosions happening? There are various government institutions to look after these matters whether everything are right or not. Are they taking any measures so that there will be no explosion and no accident? The government agencies have completely failed to take that action and such explosions are happening due to the failure of the government,” the BNP Secretary General said.
Blaming the government Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said when the country’s political parties along with the people started the democratic movement such incidents are happening to mislead the people as well as to divert the issues.
The government wants to destroy the democratic movement by creating such occurrence, the BNP leader said, adding “We hold the government fully responsible for this incident. They should be held accountable and those responsible should be brought under law of the land to ensure punishment.”
At this time, the BNP Secretary General expressed his condolences to the victims
of the explosion and prayed for the salvation of their souls.
Regarding the communal crisis in Panchgarh, the BNP Secretary General said, “An extreme communal incident took place in Panchgarh yesterday. In this incident, two people were killed, shops and houses were looted and set on fire.”
“Why did the government keep silent on such a controversial issue and why the rally allowed there or when the attack happened later? Why did the police stand by and watch it and why were not able to counter it? This is creating communal problems. We think the government is doing it with very bad intentions,” he alleged.
He said that religious harmony had been prevailing in Bangladesh for long.
‘Such incidents are being occurred with the help of the “ruling quarters” as a part of the government’s longstanding trick of bad politics to divert people’s attention while they are vocal against sufferings due to economic crisis and establishing people’s rights to vote,’ he said.
‘Such an issue of religious rivalry is being presented artificially to mislead the democratic forces at home and abroad,’ Fakhrul alleged.
He urged democracy loving people to remain alert about the issue.
