No guaranty of fair polls under caretaker govt: Japa

Staff Reporter :
Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Sunday said that there is no guaranty of holding free fair and acceptable polls under caretaker government.
“The next general election is coming. In this time leaders of different parties are demanding polls time caretaker government or holding vote under party government. But we never believe in caretaker government,” the Japa Secretary General said.
He said that some parties think that the election under ruling party government would not be free and fair. But there is no guaranty that caretaker government can conduct an acceptable and inclusive election.
Chunnu said national polls in 1996, 2001 and 2008 were held under caretaker government, but speeches from Awami League and the BNP proved that those polls were not free, fair and acceptable.
He said that if the motive of the Election Commission be honest and if the government wants fair polls than it could be possible.
The Japa Secretary General said it to journalists after a joint meeting of the party’s Co-Chairmen, Presidium Members and MPs in Banani office of the party Chairman Ghulam Mohammad Quader. The party Chairman presided over the meeting.
Chunnu said that after getting court’s embargo the party GM Quader could not call Presidium meeting for long. Now, the high court stayed the verdict so that the party Chairman is now free from the bar.
