Dhaka’s 90pc hijras are sexually normal: Police

While city dwellers have become increasing fed-up over the transgender people’s (locally known as hijra) activities in capital recently, the fact is, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police, around 90 percent of Dhaka’s transgender members are fake.
Dhaka’s commuters are used to seeing teams of transgender people entering into their passenger buses with their demand money from the passengers rather forcibly.
If someone denies paying the money, members of the gang behave with them badly using obscene words.
This has become the daily scenario of the transgender gangs in various important locations in the capital including the secretariat area.
However, recently the information given the DMP has surprised all people of the country when it said that around 90 percent of Dhaka’s transgender members have normal sexual orientations. It means these hijras are fake. DMP sources said that they know a person, a father of two children who looks remarkably healthy dresses as a pretty transgender man.
On the streets, shops and houses of the capital, everywhere the harass people for money. There are also allegations against them of extorting money by intimidation.
While investigating a case lodged with Jatrabari police station, the detective police arrested six people of a fake transgender gang.
The police revealed that 90 percent of hijras in the capital are fake. They dress up as transgender person for extorting money on the streets. Even they live in Dhaka with their family.
Deputy Police Commissioner of Wari Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police, Muhammad Ashraf Hossain said, while investigating a case of Jatrabari police station, the detective police arrested six members of a fake transgender gang on last Friday.
The leader of the group is Kajal aka Sajni Hijra. His real name is Sohag. He said that Sohag, the father of two children, has a circle of seven to eight people. They have been blackmailing people in various ways including extortion.
Not only extortion, there is allegation of kidnapping people and recording offensive videos against Kajal alias Sajni Hijra gang.
When asked, Faruk Hossain, deputy commissioner at DMP Media Center, told The New Nation that this matter was taken by DMP very seriously.
We have already got the directives of DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq to conduct drive to arrest such fake members of transgender gangs.
