Rich tribute paid to Language Movement martyrs

The ‘Shaheed Dibas’ (Language Martyrs Day) and the International Mother Language Day was observed in Bagerhat District Town and it’s all the nine Upazilas with due respect onTuesday as else where of the country in order to pay glowing tributes to the memories of the language movement martyrs, the valiant sons of the soil who made supreme sacrifices to establish the rights of the mother tongue, Bangla, in 1952. It may be mentioned here that ‘February 21 (Ekushey February)’ was recognized by the UNESCO as the International Mother Language Day on November 17, 1999.
Bagerhat District Administration earlier chalked out an elaborate programme to observe the Day in a befitting manner. Different political-socio-cultural organizations, including the ruling Awami League, took earlier various programmes such as seminar cultural functions, Milad Mahfil to observe the Amar (immortal) Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner on Tueday.
The day’s programme started with the placing of floral wreaths on the altar of the local central Shahhed Minar (situated in front of Bagerhat High School) at 12-01 am by Mohammad Azizur Rahman, DC, Bagerhat and Pankaj K M Ariful Haq, Police Super of Bagerhat ceremonially on be half of Bagerhat district administration and Bagerhat district Police administration respectively. Floral wreaths were also placed on the Shaheed Minar by the different political-socio-cultural organizations and different educational institutions like district Awami League and its front organizations, Bagerhat Pourashava, Bagerhat Bar Association, Bagerhat Press Club. It was followed with discussion meetings, painting and hand writing competitions of the children, cultural function and special prayers (offered in the mosques, temples and churches) for the salvation of the departed souls of those who sacrificed their lives on this day for the cause of mother language-Bangla.
Kurigram Correspondent says: Wheel chairs formally distribution among physical disabled persons on the eve of international Mother Language Day (February 21) in front of Kurigram Sadar Dakbanglow on Monday initiated and funded by Zila Parishad,Kurigram.
A function was held in this connection adjacent four storied Dakbanglow where chairman of Zila Parishad, president of district unit of AL and former Member of Parliament Alhaj Mohammad Jafar Ali was present as the chief guest while Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md. Faridul Islam was in the chair. Kurigram Civil Surgeon Dr. Monjur-e-Morshed, former Civil Surgeon Dr. Aminul Islam, Zila Parishad member Minhajul Islam Ayub (Pannel Chairman), Sheuly Begum Spoke among others.
Assistant Engineer Md. Mizanur Rahman along with officers and staff of Zila Parishad were also present in the function. The whole function was conducted by UDA Md. Anowarul Kabir.On the other hand, two auto Generator machines funded by Zila Parishad handed over to the civil surgeon Dr. Monjur-e-Morshed in the function for Chilmari and Rajarhat upazila health complex.Civil Surgeon thanked the Zila Parishad authority as it will very helpful for the patients who will admit in the health complex.
Gouripur (Mymensingh) Correspondent reports: The Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day was observed in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district in a befitting manner, paying rich tributes to the language martyrs on Tuesday.
 People from all walks of life placed floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar of Shahid Harun Park in the middle town and elsewhere in the upazila, recalling the supreme sacrifice made by the language heroes, who laid down their lives for the mother tongue ‘Bangla’.
 The beginning of Amar Ekushey, the Language Martyrs’ Day started at one minute-past zero hours of midnight. Upazila Chairman Md Moffazal Hossain Khan, Fauzia Naznin, UNO of Gouripur upazila, Mayor Syed Rafiqul Islam and other officials of the upazila administration and the police department, members of Gouripur Press Club, Gouripur Sangbadik Oykka Forum, Bangladesh Press Cub (Gouripur upazila branch) and Gouripur Reporters Club, local political leaders, freedom fighters and students of different educational institutions placed floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar of the upazila town. Soon the Central Shaheed Minar was bedecked with flowers and wreaths. Volunteers and councilors of Gouripur Pourashava spent a hard night tackling the streams of people who lined up in a long queue for their turn to place wreaths at the Minar.
In the morning, different organizations and institutes, including Gouripur Pilot Girls High School, Nurul Amin Khan High School ,Gouripur R.K. Govt High School, Agradut High School, Gouripur Govt College, Gouripur Women College, Gouripur Govt Technical School and College,-singing in chorus the song of Amar Ekushey and carrying banners and placards, to pay homage to the language martyrs which paraded through the main roads of the town and joined to the Central Shaheed Minar and also their respective Shaheed Minars . Around 8:00 am Lawmaker Freedom Fighter Nazim Uddin Ahmed also placed floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar of Shahid Harun Park.
Besides, to mark the day, different political, professional and sociocultural organisations held daylong programmes, including discussion meeting, milad mahfil, poetry recitation, arts competition for children, and cultural functions.
Gazipur Correspondent reports: Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has observes the ‘Amar Ekushey’, the Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day on Tuesday, with profound respect and solemnity. Various programs also chalked out marking the day.
The day’s programs started with placing wreaths at the Institute’s Shaheed Minar to pay the homage to the martyrs at one minute past midnight which is led by BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker with other directors, scientists, officers, employees, teachers, labors and representative of various organizations.
The day’s program also included, hoisting the national flag at half-mast; placing wreaths al the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; Probhat Ferry with the participations of scientists, officers, staff, teachers, labors and representative of various organizations.
A discussion was meeting also held on ‘Amar Ekushey’, the Language Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day after the Probhat Ferry. BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker, Director (Research) Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam, Director (Training and Communication) Dr. Ferdouse Islam, Director (Horticulture) Dr. Gobinda Chandra Biswas, Director (Tuber Crops Research Center) Dr. Sohela Akhter, leaders of the BARI Scientists Association (BARISA), BARI Employees Welfare Society (BARIKA), BARI Labor Association spoke in the discussion meeting.
Tangail Correspondent says: Nearly 2000 underprivileged patients receive free treatment and medicines on Tuesday in a free medical camp at Shakhipur in Tangail.
Voluntary organisation Kidney Awareness, Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) organised the free medical camp, in a bid to paying tribute to the language martyred, marking the International Mother Language Day .
Being imbued with the spirit of the International Mother Language , KAMPS, a not for profit organisation, undertakes move to honour the martyred language heroes in a different way like providing free medical treatment to the segment of people deprived of opportunity.
