Jibanananda Fair begins

On the occasion of the 124th birthanniversary of Poet of Ruposi Bangla Jibanananda Das(1899-1954), a three-day long Jibanananda-Mela(fair) has started at Barishal Government Brajo Mohun College campus on Wednesday .
Cultural organizer Lipi Abdullah, wife of BCC Mayor, inaugurated this fair organized by cultural organization Uttaron Sangskritic Sangothan of the campus.
The principal of the college, Prof. Dr. Golam Kibria, Vice-Principal AS Qaium Uddin and General Secretary of BM College Teachers Council Professor Al Amin Sarwar were present as special guests of the programme.
President of the organization Shakil Ahmed presided over the event.
The speakers of the inaugural session said, Poet Jibanananda Das, a native of Barishal born February 17, 1899 .
He himself passed IA in 1917 from this college. He was a teacher in the English Department of Brajo Mohun College from 1935 to 1946. Jibanananda wrote huge poems that got wide response during his stay in this college.
There a student hall and garden of the college named in the memory of the poet, but there is no longer study on the Poet Jibanananda here.
So the speakers stressied on the study of the poet as well as remembering him.
In this three-day fair, addition to discussion about the memory of the poet, there are various events including cultural functions, dance and recitation from the works of Jibanananda.There are 40 stalls of books, handicrafts, food in the fair on this occasion. The fair continued till February 17.
