Agri graduates must be prepared to build advanced agricultural systems

Agriculture Minister and Presidium Member of Awami League Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak has said that in order to sustain agricultural production and food security in future high-yielding crop varieties and modern farming methods should be developed and spread among farmers quickly. At the same time, the use of robotics, artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, internet of things, drones etc. in agriculture and skills in precision and vertical agriculture should be increased. The graduates of the agricultural universities of the country have to prepare themselves by acquiring skills in these subjects.
The Minister said these things in the President’s speech at the eighth convocation of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh on Sunday morning. His Excellency President and Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University. On behalf of Abdul Hamid, the Minister of Agriculture presided over the convocation and awarded the degrees. The convocation speaker was Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni. University Vice-Chancellor Prof Lutful Hasan delivered the welcome speech. The minister said that the country’s agricultural universities should play a key role in preparing agricultural graduates to build a sustainable and climate-tolerant agricultural system in the future. Therefore, the curriculum of agricultural universities should also be improved and modernized. The teachers should come forward to make the new agriculturists competent in that way. The minister said that due to the adoption and implementation of agricultural and farmer-friendly policies of the current government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, incredible success has been achieved in the production of rice, wheat, corn, fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, milk, eggs. Now Bangladesh is among the top producing countries in the list of one to ten in the production of many crops. He said that in the last financial year 2021-22, the production of rice has increased to 4 crore 4 lakh metric tons, which has crossed the all-time record. In the last 14 years, the production of rice has increased by 29%, wheat by 37%, maize by 671%, potatoes by 110%, pulses by 328%, vegetables by 645%, onions by 395%. The minister said that the people of the country are now as a result of the amazing success achieved in agricultural production He can eat to his stomach.
There has been no food crisis in the last 14 years. Dr. Razzak said, graduates of agricultural universities of the country are working tirelessly behind the incredible success that is visible in the agricultural sector today.
Earlier, the Agriculture Minister participated in the convocation procession on behalf of the Chancellor and inaugurated the convocation. Degrees were awarded to more than 6,000 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students from July 2014 to December 2021 at the convocation. 224 of them were awarded gold medals.
