Resounding victory for Comilla in BPL Cricket

Comilla Victorians registered a resounding 70-run victory over Rangpur Riders in their 12th match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Comilla Victorians collected 18 points from 12 matches, while Rangpur Riders gained 16 points from as many matches. Sylhet Strikers and Comilla Victorians earned same points but by virtue of better run rate Sylhet finished top and Comilla completed at second position in the league phase.
Sent into bat first, Comilla piled up a mammoth total of 177 for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then bundled out Rangpur for 107 off 17 overs.
Comilla had a good start as openers Litton Das and Mohaamad Rizwan put on together 43 runs in the opening stand before Rizwan was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Azmatullah Omarzai.
After Rizwan’s dismissal, one-down Sunil Narine (8) was bowled out by Ripon Mondol when Comilla’s score was 63 for the loss of two wickets.
Opener Litton and second-down Imrul Kayes contributed 38 runs for the third wicket partnership before Litton was dismissed by Rakibul Hasan when Comilla’s total was 101 for the loss of three wickets.
Litton hit a marvelous 47. His 33-ball innings saw three sixes and three fours.
After Litton’s departure, Imrul (19) was dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai when Comilla’s score was 105 for the loss of four wickets.
After Imrul’s dismissal, Jaker Ali and Khushdil Shah built a worthy partnership. They scored together 72 runs in the five-wicket stand before Jaker Ali was picked up by Hasan Mahmud when Comilla’s total was 177 for the loss of five wickets.
Khushdil remained unbeaten with 40 runs. His 20-ball hurricane innings saw three sixes and two fours.
Jaker Ali made 34 from 23 deliveries with three sixes.
Opener Rizwan scored 24 from 21 balls including two fours and a sixer.
Omarzai bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 34 runs, while Rakibul Hasan, Hasan Mahmud and Ripon Mondol took one wicket each conceding 18, 31 and 45 runs respectively.
Later, Rahmatullah Gurbaz was the only batter of Rangpur who fought back against the tight controlled and superb bowling and fielding display of Comilla. Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman captured three wickets in the space of 18 runs, while Tanvir Islam and Sunil Narine bagged two wickets each giving 26 and 27 runs respectively. Tanvir Islam was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Andre Russel took one wicket for 16 runs.
Gurbaz hit a polished 29 from 22 balls featuring two sixes and a four.
