ACC to approve filing case against 23 Biman officials

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved for filing case against 23 Biman Bangladesh Airline officials including Director, Chief Engineer and General Manager (GM).
ACC Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain confirmed the matter on Monday saying that within short time Dhaka integrated district office will file the case.
The accused are – Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited’s former director of flight operations Captain Inrat Ahmed, former deputy chief engineer Shafiqul Alam Siddique (SA Siddique), general manager (printing and publication) Abdur Rahman Farooqui, former principal engineer of services and audit Shahid Uddin Mohammad Hanif , former Principal Engineer (MCC&LM) Debesh Chowdhury, cab consultant Golam Sarwar and cab engineer officer Md. Sadekul Islam Bhuya, Biman Bangladesh Airlines DGM Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Chief Engineer ARM Kaiser Zaman (Principal System Eng (Structure) Sharif Ruhul Quddus, Captain Md. Nazrul Islam Shamim, Deputy General Manager (AOC, ACP) Zia Ahmed, Chief Purser ( Retired) Kazi Mosaddeq Ali, flight passer Md Shahidullah Kaiser Duke and Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited Deputy General Manager Corporate (Planning) Md Azad Rahman.
The other defendants are the former manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited Abdul Qadir, Deputy Chief Engineer (Retired) Md. Shahjahan, Engineer Officer (retd) Zahid Hossain, Assistant Manager Planning Fazlul Haque Basunia, Manager ACP Ataur Rahman, Chief Purser (retd) Mohammad Sajjad ul Haque (Shahin), Flight Purser Shahnaz Begum Jharna and Chief Engineer (Engineering Services) Gazi Mahmud Iqbal.
According to sources, Biman Bangladesh Airlines leased two Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft from Egypt Air on a five-year contract in 2014.
Both aircraft suffered engine failure at the end of the first year. The engines were about 12-15 years old. Due to their short airworthiness period, the engines were completely crippled. Another engine was leased from Egypt Air to keep the aircraft operational.
