Blogger Farabi awarded seven-year jail term for threatening imam

The Dhaka Cyber Tribunal yesterday sentenced blogger Shafiur Rahman Farabi to seven years’ imprisonment with additional fine of Taka 20 thousand in a case lodged against him under the ICT Act for threatening an imam.
Judge AM Zulfiqar Hayat of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict and sent him to the jail afterwards.
The case was filed against Farabi on July 23, 2014, with the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Police submitted the charge sheet against him under Section 57 (2) of the ICT Act on August 20, 2015.
