Despite the request of traders, the deadline for the 27th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) is not being extended. The month-long fair is going to end on Tuesday.
The fair held at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center, the permanent venue of the fair in the east of the capital, will come down next Tuesday (January 31).
AHM Ahsan, vice chairman of the organising body Export Development Bureau (EPB) confirmed this information to the media and said that Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastgir Gazi and Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will be present at the closing ceremony.
AHM Ahsan said, traders always make a request to extend the fair time. Since the fair has started at the scheduled time, the time will not be extended. If someone fails to start business at the right time it is their failure. So the fair will end at the scheduled time with the closing ceremony on Tuesday.
Claiming that the attendance of visitors to the fair was more than expected, the senior official of the organising body said, if we consider the arrival and presence of visitors, then I would say that this time it was more than expected. About 3 lakh visitors have come in the last two days.
However, the businessmen claim that even though there were more visitors, the selling was not as expected. Considering the current economic situation, he said it is not right to expect a lot of selling.
Meanwhile, there was a large presence of visitors at the fair as the last two days were weekend holidays. There have been a lot of sales in the stalls of the fair. However, although there were some sales in the last period, the traders who participated in the fair are not satisfied with the overall situation. They claim that the sales target has not been met.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 27th month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair on January 1.
