Ecosystem under threats as forest resources being destroyed

Ubiquitous destruction of forest resources even in the most remote localities, from the deepest of the forest and hereby the ecosystem and biodiversity is now under threats.  
Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said that the ecosystem is now under threat due to the excessive destruction of forest resources as a result of human greed.
Railway Minister said this remark on Saturday at conference on “Biodiversity Conservation: Bangladesh Perspective” as a chief guest held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU).
“Wildlife, biodiversity and ecosystems are under threat today due to climate change and human destruction of the environment. Wildlife is disappearing from our midst as people are destroying habitats of animals and build houses, roads between forests and mountains,” the Minister added.
Mentioning that the people are punching the ecosystem under threat, he urged, “It is our duty to create forestation suitable for wild animals without destroying forests.”
 Zoology Department of DU and Zoological Society of Bangladesh jointly organised this event where academicians, researchers and professionals from home and abroad participated.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the inaugural function of the conference while Professor of Jahangirnagar University Zoology Department Dr. Md. Mostafa Feeroz delivered key-note speech.
Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman emphasised on conservation of animal habitats to achieve Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs). He called upon the researchers to play an effective role to achieve these goals through conducting pragmatic researches.
“This National Conference will help formulate policy on Biodiversity Conservation in the country,” he hoped.
Railway Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan MP stressed the need for conservation of animal habitats to preserve biodiversity. He said that conservation of biodiversity is a constitutional obligation of all the citizens.
Chief Conservator of Forests Md. Amir Hossain Chowdhury, President of ACI Agribusiness Dr. FH Ansarey, Chairman of Prokriti O Jibon Foundation Muqeed Majumdar Babu, President of Zoological Society of Bangladesh Prof. Dr. Hamida Khanum, Secretary Prof. Dr. M Lokman Hossain, and Chairman of DU Zoology Department Prof. Dr. Niamul Naser also addressed the inaugural function.
