6 sentenced to death for war crimes in Mymensingh

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) yesterday (Monday) convicted and sentenced six Razakars from Trishal upazila of Mymensingh to death in a case of crimes against humanity committed during the War of Liberation.
A three-member panel of the ICT-1 headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam delivered the verdict in absence of the convicts and they are yet to be arrested. Other two members of the judges’ panel are- Justice Md Abu Ahmed Jamadar and Justice KM Hafizul Alam.
The six convicts are- Md Mokhlesur Rahman Mukul, Md Saidur Rahman Ratan, Shamsul Haque Fakir, Nurul Haque Fakir, Md Sultan Mahmud Fakir and Nakib Hossain Adil Sarker.
Senior Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Simon and prosecutor Tapos Kanti Baul moved the case for the prosecution, while Advocate Gazi MH Tamim defended the fugitives as state-appointed defense counsel.
The tribunal on December 5, 2018, framed six charges against humanity and on February 18, 2019, started recording depositions of the witnesses. The court on different dates examined total 19 witnesses in the case.
