Judges and magistrates protest the B’baria court incident by blacking out FB profile pictures
Staff Reporter :
Judges and magistrates across the country have blacked out their facebook (FB) profile pictures in a bid to protest the incident of misbehaving with Brahmanbaria judge Mohammad Faruq on January 2.
Bangladesh Judicial Service Association in a statement on Friday condemned the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to those involved in the incident.
The Association observed that the misconduct with a sitting judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 has tarnished the dignity and image of the judiciary.
On January 2, local Bar Association President Md Tanvir Bhuiyan, Secretary Md Akkas Ali and around 10-15 lawyers, including Zubair Islam,
rudely asked the judge to leave the courtroom. Lawyer Tanvir hurled abusive words to the court, the association said.
Following the incident, the judges and magistrates across the country changed their personal facebook profile pictures with black colors to protest the incident.
The Association sources said that the changing of profile pictures was not its decision, rather it was a spontaneous move.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the High Court summoned Md Tanvir Bhuiyan, Md Akkas Ali, lawyer Zubair Islam to appear before the Apex court to explain the matter for misbehaving with the district Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Mohammad Faruq.
The HC bench also issued a rule asking Tanvir, Akkas and Zubayer to show cause as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them for their misconduct with the judge and creating chaos in the courtroom.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order and issued a contempt of court rule against the three.
