Bangladesh Navy has rescued 15 fishermen alive from a fishing boat floating in the Bay of Bengal for eight days due to engine failure south of Cox’s Bazar.
Navy ship ‘Anushandhan’ rescued the fishermen on Wednesday when they were in the deep sea for survey work. Water, food and first aid were given to the stranded fishermen.
Later, the rescued 15 fishermen and their fishing boat ‘Nishi Padma’ were brought to the jetty adjacent to Inani in Cox’s Bazar and handed over to the representatives of Md. Jasim Uddin, the owner of the boat.
Meanwhile, they expressed their sincere gratitude and thanks to the Navy for saving their lives.
The fishing boat left for deep sea with 15 fishermen from Banskhali, Cox’s Bazar on 24 December 2022. On the way, the engine of the boat broke down in the deep sea on December 28, 2022. Later, the boat was floating in the deep sea for the last eight days.
The rescued fishermen are Usman Sarwar (38), Md. Abul Bashar (57), Md. Kawsar (38), Md. Zainal Abedin (33), Md. Abdur Rahman (21), Md. Tariqul Islam (17), Md. Syed (19), Md. Ansar (21), Badiul Alam (42), Didarul Islam (35), Md Arafat (22), Tariqullah (60), Zaheer Alam (40), Md Yusuf (42) and Salahuddin (32). Most of them are residents of Bashkhali and Qutubdia.
