Biting cold hits Sylhet City

Winter has started to settle in Sylhet. However, the intensity of winter may increase in the next two days. The temperature of Sylhet will be the lowest in early 2023, said the Sylhet Meteorological Office.
According to the Meteorological Department, due to low pressure over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, this rain is occurring in the southern and eastern parts of the country. The organization said that this rain will remain in Sylhet for a few days.Last Monday,it rained in several places in Sylhet. It may rain in some places in before the new year comes. However, the Meteorological Office said that the average rainfall in December is 9.4 mm. And till now it has rained 8.2 mm.
Sylhet Meteorological Office said that the last rain occurred in Sylhet on October 24. After 62 days, it rained in the district after six o’clock on Monday morning. The maximum temperature in Sylhet last Monday (December 26) was 20.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 17 degrees Celsius. And on Tuesday (December 27), the lowest temperature was recorded at 16.2 degrees Celsius.
Due to the severe winter, the tea workers have to suffer to take care of the tea garden trees. They said that the brother has been cold as ice for several days. While pruning the trees in the garden, the hands and feet become paralyzed. So I can’t go to work for a few days.
Meanwhile, many winter diseases have increased. Hospitals and clinics have been observed to be crowded with patients suffering from colds, coughs, asthma, sinusitis, eosinophils, etc. Doctors are advising patients to follow hygiene rules as there is a risk of increasing the incidence of corona virus in winter.
Zakaria Talukder of Lakkanaband village of Golapganj upazila said that although it was not so cold in the past few days, it is very cold since the first day. Wearing warm clothes does not remove the cold.
Rabiul Islam, a stone quarrier in Companiganj, said that the water of the frozen river is already cold. It has been severe cold for the last four days. Due to which it is difficult to go to work. I am sitting at home since yesterday.
Doctors say that due to weather changes, the pressure of patients has increased in hospitals. Since the weather is dry in the winter season, the amount of germs in the air increases. As a cold-related disease, cold-cough and shortness of breath are more common. And children and the elderly are more affected by cold-related diseases. Therefore, if you take extra precautions during this time, you will get some protection.
Syed Ahmad Chowdhury, the senior meteorologist of Sylhet Meteorological Office, said that the sky is cloudy and cold is being felt. But the intensity of winter will increase after December 28. Sylhet temperature is expected to be a minimum on January 4, 2023. At that time the temperature will be around 12 degrees Celsius. It has rained in some places of Sylhet yesterday, there may be light rain in the next few days. But this rain is beneficial for crops.
Sayeed Ahmad Chowdhury said, usually the intensity of winter is around December, but it changes due to weather changes. Now it has shifted to January-February. This change is happening not only in the field of Sylhet but in the whole country.
