A recent survey revealed that about 50 per cent of urban and 31 per cent of slum women give birth by caesarean section (CS) in Bangladesh.
“50 per cent of urban women living in 11 city corporation areas give birth using caesarean section,” says a study report of it.
This information has been revealed in CIRDAP auditorium on Tuesday in a programme titled 3rd Bangladesh Urban Health Survey.
The survey is conducted by the National Population Research and Training Institute (NIPORT).
The report said that about 59 pc of women living in cities give birth using the CS.
It also found that the urban women who are living in districts and upazila townships where above 45 thousand people are living, used to give birth with CS.
The survey was conducted on married women aged 12 to 49 years, married men aged 15 to 54 years, children under five years and community leaders.
In the event, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek said if the correct data is obtained, the picture shows as to how far a work has progressed. At the same time it becomes easier to take decisions and fix things. Our biggest crisis is manpower. Much less than what is needed. As a result, it becomes difficult to get healthcare. People are getting clean water in slums and other areas. At the same time, electricity is also available. However, sanitation is lagging behind. Shahan Ara Banu, Director General of Family Planning Department, Additional Director General (Administration) of Health Department, Professor Dr. Ahmadul Kabir, Acting Director General of the Department of Health and Education Professor Dr. Md. Tito Mia, among others, were present in the event.
