In the beginning of this year, nine young people who earlier left the house in the name of ‘hijrat’ have now returned to a new life. The RAB intelligence team and battalion rescued them recently.
Their future movements will be monitored by the law and order forces, the RAB said.
According sources, nine youths joined a Facebook group named ‘Duniya Kiye Musafir’. They are students of schools, colleges and universities from different areas of the country. Through this group, they were and initiated and incited to extremist thoughts.
At one point, they were told to go to the quiet environment of the hilly areas to practice their religion undisturbed. These young people left their homes in the name of ‘hijrat’ at the instigation of the so-called clerics.
At one stage they reached Rangamati. But they returned to Chittagong after not finding an amiable environment there. When a young girl fell sick there, she was admitted to a hospital.
The RAB took nine people into their custody after receiving information about them. The nine youths were returned to their families through a ceremony at the RAB headquarters on Monday afternoon.
In the event these youths said that they gave up the path of extremism after realizing their mistake.
The RAB Director General M Khurshid Hossain, the chief guest of the program entitled ‘On the way to Navdiganter Pathe’ greeted the nine young people with flowers and gifted books. The elite force also gave them cash money as assistance.
The Director General of RAB said that many young people are stepping on the path of extremism motivated by the wrong interpretation of religion. The people of every class and profession in society and the parents should be careful about their children so that children do not step on the wrong path.
The RAB director urged the parents to take care of their children so that do not also get addicted by drugs.
Khandaker Al Moin, the director of RAB’s law and media department, told the New Nation that RAB’s surveillance of fugitive militant members in the mountains is continuing. The agency is trying to arrest them. Some of the youths have already been handed over to their families. In this list, a woman has also been brought to light.
Recently, more than 80 youths disappeared from their homes in the name of ‘hijrat’ in the new organization of militants called Jamaatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya.
Counter Terrorism Unit and RAB members arrested at least 25 members of this organization at various times. These youth underwent armed training in the mountains with an organization called Kuki-Chin. More than half a hundred Hindal militants trained in the hills still remain disappeared.
Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested six suspected militants who were inspired by international militant group Al Qaeda.
A team of city intelligence analysis division of CTTC conducted drives in the capital’s Sayedabad Bus Terminal, Chattogam and Teknaf and detained them on Sunday.
The detainees are Abdur Rob, Md Sakib, Md Shamim Hossain, Md Nadim Sheikh, Md Absar, and Md Saeed Uddin.
Md Asaduzzaman, Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan police said that in the initial questioning, they said that they formed the group by establishing contact on social media and online apps. Later, they were staying in Teknaf to spread militancy in the country with training from local associates.
They planned to stay in the hilly area of Teknaf. In the beginning members were not many, but gradually they increased the number of members. They were looking for young people for recruitmment, he said.
The Minister of Local Government, Cooperatives and Rural Development, Tajul Islam, recently said that Islam does not support any act against humanity. Militancy has no place in Islam. No sane person can support militancy. Those who love Islam can never condone militancy.
