The youths and the students in particular celebrated the arrival of the New Year 2023 last night with firework in the sky.
“As police didn’t allow any meeting, rally and musical event in the open place for the celebration of the New Year for the sake of people’s security, the night passed peacefully.
All programmes must be held indoors. No DJ party will be allowed, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq.
Although there was no threat centering the New Year celebrations, the members of the Counter-Terrorism Unit and the detectives were on high alert all over the capital to avoid any untoward incident, DMP Commissioner said. Earlier, the DMP took special security measures in several areas, including Dhaka University, Hatirjheel, Banani, Gulshan and Baridhara on the eve of English New Year. Outsiders and vehicles were not allowed to enter those areas after 8 pm.
The DMP commissioner said outsiders and vehicles would not be allowed to enter the Dhaka University campus after 6 pm. Vehicles of teachers, officers and employees residing in the residential areas of DU entered through Shahbagh Crossing subject to identification after the stipulated time.
The same guidelines were also applicable for Hatirjheel, Banani, Gulshan and Baridhara areas. No one will be able to stay at those areas after 8 pm.
