OSHE Foundation report: 967 killed in workplace accidents in ‘22

In 2022, the total number of causalities at workplace was 1195 where 967 workers lost their lives and 228 were injured, according to a report on casualties at workplaces by Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Foundation (OSHE).
This year the casualties increased by 9.74 percent compared with the previous year where the formal and informal sectors account for 246 and 949 casualties respectively.152 workers were killed in formal sector while 815 others in informal sector.Among the fatalities in workplace 24 were women and 943 were men said MM Kabir Mamun,Project Coordinator ,OSHE Foundation, at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Friday 30 December.
The information sources of the study were newspaper reports and information gathered from spots by staff of the foundation.
According to the foundation’s report,the highest 425 workers were killed in transport sector involving 40 percent of total fatalities.
The second most sector of fatality was service sector including workers of workshop, gas and electricity companies, hospitals, restaurants where 211 workers were killed. In construction sector, 105 workers were killed in workplace and garments sector accounts for 24 fatalities of worker along with 26 injuries.
According to the same study of OSHE Foundation, the total number of casualties at workplace is 15,259in last ten years from 2013 to2022 where 9558 workers died and 5701 were injured.
