Bashundhara Kings retained their title in the Women’s Football League defeating Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan College Sporting Club (ARBCSC) by two goals to nil in their last match of the League at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in the city’s Kamalapur on Friday.
This is Bashundhara Kings’ consecutive hat-trick title in the League.
Bashundhara Kings emerged unbeaten champions bagging maximum 33 points from 11 matches, while Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan College Sporting Club became runners-up collecting 30 points from as many outings.
After a barren first half, Bashundhara Kings scored the two goals in the second-half.
ARBCSC got the first opportunity in the 24th minute of the first half. Aklima Khatun of ARBCSC entered the danger zone of Bashundhara Kings after dodging past three defenders of Bashundhra Kings but Bashundhara’s goalie Rupna Chakma saved he team from danger after advancing from the goalbar.
Krishna Rani of Bashundhra struck a shot outside the D-box of ARBCSC but her shot bounced back after touching the cross-piece in the 39th minute of the play.
After the lemon-break, Bashundhara got some opportunities but they failed to convert those.
Sheuli Azim of Bashundhara Kings put her team ahead by putting the ball into the blank goalbar which she got by a cross of her teammate Sabina Khatun at ARBCSC’s goalmouth melee in the 82nd minute of the play.
Bashunsdhara Kings were awarded by a penalty kick in the injury time of the second-half. Shamsunnahar Junior made no mistake to struck the ball into the goalbar by an accurate spot-kick.
