Death of ASP Shipon, complainant summoned

A Dhaka court yesterday summoned the complainant to appear in it on January 26 to give his opinion whether it will accept the charges brought against 15 people in a case filed about the death of ASP Anisul Karim Shipon on November 9 of 2020.
National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) Registrar Dr Abdullah Al Mamun is among the accused in the case filed with Adabor Police Station of the city.
Inspector AKM Nasir Ullah of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on November 30.
The 14 other accused are- hospital directors, Fatema Khatun Moyna, Abdullah Al Mamun, Sakhawat Hossain Remon and Sazzad Amin, Marketing Manager Arif Mahmud Joy, Coordinator Redwan Sabbir Sajib, Kitchen Staffer Masud Khan, ward boys- Jobayer Hossain, Tanif Mollah, Sajeeb Chowdhury, Asim Kumar Pal and Saiful Islam Palash, guard Liton Ahamed and Pharmacist Tanvir Hasan.
Of them, Sakhawat Hossain went abroad allegedly to avoid the arrest while the rest 14 are now on bail in the case. The IO dropped the name of FIR-named accused Dr Nusrat from the charge sheet as her involvement was not found during investigation.
Name of another accused Dr Niaz Morshed was also dropped from the charge sheet as he died earlier. ASP Anisul Karim Shipon was allegedly tortured to death on November 9, 2020 at the Mind Aid Psychiatry and De-Addiction Hospital.
Following Shipon’s death, his father Faijuddin Ahmed filed the murder case with Adabor Police Station in the capital accusing 15 people, including five management personnel of the hospital.
