Embezzlement case Evaly CEO, chairman indicted

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday began trial against disputed e-commerce company Evaly CEO Mohammad Rassel and his wife, Chairman of the company, Shamima Nasrin for embezzling customers’ money.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan of Dhaka CMM Court passed the order on Wednesday and fixed February 18 to record the depositions of witnesses in the case.
Rassel, who is currently in the jail, was brought to court on the occasion while accused Evaly Officer Moinul Haque was present in the court and he was exempted from the case. But Shamima Nasrin, who is on bail, did not appear in the court and pleaded for more time through her lawyer. The court,
rejected her bail plea and issued an arrest warrant against her. Besides, the court ordered to frame charge in the case.
Earlier, on September 15 of last year, an Evaly customer filed the case with Gulshan Police Station in the capital against Mohammad Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin, on allegations of fraud and embezzlement of money. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rassel and his wife Shamima Nasrin in a raid of their residence in the city’s Mohammadpur area after the case was filed.
The case statement says, on September 16 of last year, Arif Baker of a customer of Evaly lodged the case with Gulshan Police Station against Rassel and Shamima on the charges of fraud and embezzlement.
CID Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam, Investigation Officer of the case submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court on August 29 of this year.
