Cold wave likely to sweep the country

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted fall of temperature by 3 degrees across the country with Light rain likely at one or two places of Chattogram division in the next 24 hours.
The seasonal low lies over South Bay, extending its trough to North Bay.
The country’s lowest temperature on Wednesday was recorded 9.2 degrees Celsius in Tetulia and Tuesday’s highest temperature was recorded 29.4 degrees Celsius in Teknaf. Temperature at night may fall by 3 degrees Celsius over the country, and day temperature may rise slightly, the met office said in a 24-hour weather forecast.
It also forecast moderate to thick fog at places over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during midnight till Thursday morning.
As the winter is becoming more severe, the number of cold-related diseases is also increasing.
Day labourers in Dinajpur,Thakurgaon, Panchagarh , Kurigram and Rangpur districts suffers most due to the ongoing mild cold wave. The northerly cold wind started blowing more strongly at evening. Fog and dew are seen across these districts till 11 am.
A labourer of a tea garden in Tetulia, Jaherul Islam said ”Cold weather has been disrupted our normal life significantly .We have to work from early morning and after touching the tea leaf it’s feel like a slice of ice and I benumbed.
I have no choice but to work, he added.
According to Dinajpur’s Aurobindo Shishu Hospital, M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital and 250-bed General Hospital have been seeing a surge number of children and elderly patients with cold-related diseases.
Most of the patients have been suffering from pneumonia and diarrhoea. The elderly and children have also been suffering from flu, fever, whooping cough and other respiratory diseases.
As the number of children and elderly patients soars, the hospital authorities have been struggling to provide treatment to all of them.
