Khulna farmers expecting bumper mustard harvest this year

Farmers of Khulna are expecting a bumper production of mustard in this season.
Farmers of nine upazilas in the district are cultivating the winter crop, expected good yield and fair prices. The nine upazilas are Digholia, Terokhada, Rupsha, Batiaghata, Paikgachha, Koyra, Dakop, Phultala and Dumuria.
Agriculture Extension official sources said that easy cultivation process and lower cost of production encourage the farmers to cultivate mustard.
The farmers of Khulna have cultivated around 1125 hectors of land, Directorate of Agriculture Extension ( DAE ) sources said. Directorate of Agriculture Extension sources said , a total of 11,400 farmers were given incentives by the government. They were also given seed and fertilizer. As such they eagered to cultivate mustard.
Abul Fazal of Alaipur village of Rupsha upazila said he is hopeful to get bumper production of mustard and harvest will begin within the 4th week of this month.
Abdul Jalil , a farmer of village Bamondanga of Terokhada upazila said, “I cultivated mustard on a bigha of land last year, this year I cultivated 2 bighas of land.
Hashem Mia, a farmer of Deara village of Digholia upazila said that he has cultivated mustard BARI on three bighas of land expecting bumper production as the DAE authorities encouraged to cultivate the crop.
