EVMs: How many seats to be known by Jan

Election Commissioner (EC) Md Alamgir said that the number of Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) in the next parliamentary election will depend upon the number of the constituencies.
He said it is possible to hold 70 parliamentary seats election by using EVM that we have. So, in January we shall be able to know the amount of budget for procuring EVM to conduct next Jatiya Sangsad election.
He said it to the newsmen while talking with them at the EC headquarters in the Capital’s Agargoan area.
 EC Alamgir said if we get budget in time, then we are thinking to conduct 150 constituencies’ polls by using EVM. But if it comes in February, then it will not possible.When asked about EVM’s acceptance by the oppositions, EC Commissioner said the political parties criticized about the operating system of the EVM. If an honest and fair operator is behind the machine, then it is possible to hold a acceptable polls.
Our commissions have already talked with various stakeholders, experts about the loopholes of EVM and trying to mend these weaknesses, he added.
