Bangladesh Chhatra League(BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, got new leadership, following its council earlier this month.
Saddam Hussain is the new president and Sheikh Enan the general secretary of Chhatra League’s central committee, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced late on Tuesday.
Chhatra League held its 29th council in May 2018.
In July of that year, Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and Golam Rabbani became president and general secretary of the organization. They lost their posts in September 2019 over various allegations, including extortion in development projects.
Later, Al-Nahean Khan Joy and Lekhak Bhattacharya became acting president and acting general secretary of Chhatra League.
On January 4, 2020, on the foundation anniversary of Chhatra League, Joy and Lekhak became president and general secretary. Since then they had been serving as the two top leaders of the organization.
But their record was spotless. Several leaders and activists of the Chhatra League had demanded a new council several times.
