In response to the ruling party Awami League’s request, the de facto opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has decided to defer their Dhaka mass procession date from 24th December to the 30th instant as AL has their national council on the day.
However, the nationwide mass procession except the capital would be held on the pre-scheduled date i.e December 24.
BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan confirmed the matter while speaking with the media at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters on Saturday.
Meanwhile, as part of the first simultaneous anti-government movement, leaders of the Gonotontro Mancho would bring out their mass rally and hold protest programme on December 30 in Dhaka. Mahumudur Rahman Manna announced their programme while speaking at an event in front of Jatiya Press Club on Saturday.
Howbeit, BNP has announced a fresh date, 30 December, for holding a mass procession in Dhaka to press home their 10-point demand including the resignation of the current Awami League government.
Addressing the press conference, the party Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan said that they would bring out their mass procession in Dhaka on December 30, but the mass procession elsewhere in the country would be held on the scheduled date of December 24.
“We will request the leaders and activists across the country except Dhaka to make the 24 December mass protest rally a success. Many political parties of the country have joined this movement. They want democracy and people’s elected government ending the tyranny of the ruling party Awami League. The present government is involved with looting of people’s wealth. The democratic people and likeminded political parties will able to oust the AL government through simultaneous movement,” Nazrul Islam said.
The BNP, from its Dhaka divisional rally at capital’s Golapbagh, on December 10 announced to bring out mass processions across Bangladesh on December 24.
After the announcement of the protest programme of BNP, the Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader requested the BNP not to bring out any procession on that day as Awami League’s national council would be held on December 24. The BNP after considering several points responded positively.
