Fakhrul, Abbas, Rezvi not yet granted division

Top leaders of BNP including Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, haven’t got division in jail yet even after four days of arrest.
It is known that some central leaders of the party have been facing various complex diseases like Diabetes and heart related problem since long before. But they are in severe trouble in the jail due to absence of medical aids and divisional facilities.
Their division papers are not available yet. In the division hall, they are supposed to get separate rooms and better food services.
According to the jail sources, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and central leader Mirza Abbas have been kept in quarantine after being taken to Dhaka Central Jail in a case filed at the capital’s Paltan Police Station. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, who was arrested last Wednesday, is already under quarantine in prisons.
It is mentionable that a new rule was introduced in all prisons in the country after the outbreak of the coronavirus. From then on, new prisoners are kept in quarantine for seven days. That rule still prevails there.
Earlier, after being taken to the court on Saturday afternoon, the investigation officer of the related case applied to keep Fakhrul and Abbas in jail.
The court accepted the plea and sent these two top leaders of BNP to jail. However, the instructions of their division have not yet arrived.
According to family sources, BNP’s Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, who was arrested in the crackdown, has been suffering from various diseases including Diabetes and heart related problem since long time.
His family and relatives are worried as he is in trouble with many diseases in the jail. They urged the jail authority to grant division for his recovery.
In this issue, Mohammad Mohiuudin, Advocate of CMM court of Dhaka, told the New Nation that we applied to get the division for the seniors leaders of BNP soon after the arrest. Though the court granted the application, But Jail authority didn’t ensure the facility, he said.
In this regards, Mahabubul Islam, Jailer of Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj) told the media that new prisoners are kept in quarantine according to prison rules. So BNP leaders have been kept in quarantine. They are as common prisoners.
In a major crackdown police detained over 300 BNP leaders and activists, including seven central leaders, following a clash in front of the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters recently.
All of them were detained from near their party headquarters following a clash around 3:00pm between police and BNP men, that left one dead and over 30 injured.
