AL, BNP men clash at Mugda, 2 bikes torched

Two motorcycles were set on fire in the capital’s Kamalapur when Awami League and BNP activists chased and counter-chased each other in Mugda area, marking BNP’s Dhaka divisional mass rally at Golapbagh field.
The incident occurred near a footover bridge and Mugda Hospital around 2.30 pm on Saturday.
According to locals and police, two burnt motorcycles, reportedly owned by Jubo Dal activists, were torched by ruling party activists during the rally.
Fire Service Duty Officer Rakibul Hasan confirmed the truth of the incident and said, “We received a message that two motorcycles have been set on fire under the bridge in Kamalapur. Our team went to the spot and brought the fire under
control. Several attempts were made to contact the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sabuj Bagh Police Station to discuss the matter but there was no response.
However, defying all obstacles, BNP leaders and activists thronged the city’s Golapbagh venue on Saturday morning as the much-anticipated divisional rally began around 11 am.
Besides, members of law enforcement agencies, activists of Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League were also seen taking position on city streets to prevent what they said “Any sabotage activities” by BNP men.
