Staff Reporter :
Security measures have taken in the capital and the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram area to avoid any kind of untoward incident or chaos marking the BNP’s December 10 Dhaka Divisional Mass Rally.
Passengers experienced immense sufferings due to insufficient number of vehicles on the road.
A large number of law enforcement personnel were seen in Baitul Mukarram area on Friday (December 9) before Friday prayers.
However, there are also complains that the police prevented and hindered the Musulli to perform Friday (Jumma) prayers, but police denied the allegation.
In this regards, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner (Operations) Biplab
Kumar Sarkar said, it is a false allegation. No worshiper was barred. Rather, the police are assisting those who will go home after performing the holy Friday prayers.
It was seen on the spot that several hundred police were deployed at Paltan, Dainik Bangla and Gulistan junctions near Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Friday.
Members of RAB and other law enforcement agencies are stationed at the north gate and west side of Baitul Mukarram. Police have also been deployed inside the north and west gates of Baitul Mukarram.
Besides, water cannons and armored vehicles have been kept ready.
Meanwhile, shops around Baitul Mukarram markets were almost closed before Friday prayers. The traders on the sidewalk did not open their shops on this day. Pedestrian movement is restricted except for worshippers.
It is noted that police have set up temporary checkposts on various highways including Gazipur, Narayanganj, Munshiganj and Savar, the entrances to the capital Dhaka, and are searching various vehicles. They said that this measure has been taken for the safety of the people. Meanwhile, passengers have to wait for a long time due to less traffic on the road.
