Miraz powers Bangladesh to win ODI series against India

An all-round performance by Mehidy Hasan Miraz powered Bangladesh to win One Day International (ODI) series 2-0 against India on Wednesday remaining one match. Bangladesh earned a hard-fought five-run win at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur. Earlier, Bangladesh beat India by one wicket in the first ODI at the same venue on December 4.
Miraz remained unbeaten with 100 runs. His classic 83-ball maiden century in ODI cricket was laced with four sixes and eight fours. He captured two wickets in the space of 46 runs. Miraz was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
The score: Bangladesh made 271 for 7 in 50 overs; India scored 266 for nine in 50 overs.
Bangladesh faced a disaster as they lost six wickets for 69 runs.
Then, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mehidy Hasan Miraz rescued their team from danger contributing together 148 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Riyad was caught behind by KL Rahul off Umran Malik when the hosts’ total was 217 for the loss of seven wickets.
Riyad hit a superb 77. His 96-ball innings was belted with seven fours. He reached his 50-run landmark using 74 deliveries with four fours.
After Riyad’s dismissal, Miraz and Nasum Ahmed put on together 54 runs for the unbroken eighth wicket partnership before Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Nasum Ahmed remained unbeaten with 18 runs. He struck two fours and a sixer in his 11-ball innings.
Earlier, one-down Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 21 from 35 balls featuring three fours.
Washington Sundar grabbed three wickets in the space of 37 runs, while Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj bagged two wickets each conceding 58 and 73 runs respectively.
Later, Most of the Indian batters failed to face the tight, controlled and accurate bowling attack of Bangladesh bowlers. Right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain grabbed three wickets instead of 45 runs, while Shakib Al Hasan claimed two wickets at the cost of 39 runs.
Riyad and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each for 33 and 43 runs respectively.
India lost their early four wickets for 65 runs.
One-down Shreyas Iyer and fourth-down Axar Patel salvaged their team from debacle scoring together 107 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Iyer was caught at the deep midwicket by Afif Hossain off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the tourists’ total was 172 for the loss of five wickets.
Iyer notched up a terrific 82. He hit three fours and six sixes.
After Iyer’s departure, Patel could stay at the crease for a short period. He struck a run-a-ball 56 hitting three sixes and two fours.
Rohit Sharma fought back making an unbeaten 51. His 28-ball innings saw five sixes and three fours.
