Tragic at DU campus: Students demand safe campus and limited vehicles

The Dhaka University (DU) students have demanded safe campus and limited vehicles movement up checkposts at the entrance gate of the campus.
The students boosted up this demands after the death of a woman, who was dragged by a private car on the campus around a kilometre on Friday.
A large number of vehicles are being driven through the DU campus as having not any restriction for outsiders that made the campus very hazardous for easily movement of its students.
A group of DU students organized a sit-in protest demanding a safe campus in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s residence yesterday.
Besides, a section of Nirapad Sarak Chai, Dhaka University unit, held a protest rally also for the death of a woman at Raju Scripture Memorial .
They demanded safe campus and exemplary punishment of Azhar Jafar Shah, former assistant professor of the International Relations department of DU, who was behind the wheel during the accident.
“We feel unsafe on the campus as heavy vehicles run through the area. We can even hear the sound of these vehicles when we are in the library. We raised the demand several times but the authorities did not pay any heed,” Rifat Jahan Shaon, Convener of the organisation’s DU unit, said.
Students also demanded to introduce a rickshaw services registered by the university administration on all routes within the university and a specific dress code for the rickshaw pullers.
Tasnim Afroj Emi, Former Vice-President of Shamsun Nahar Hall DUCSU, said, “We demanded to control public transportation in the campus and speed within a limited scale as well as all roads within the campus have to under the control of DU administration.”
