Russia assures Bangladesh to talk to Myanmar on Rohingya solution

Russia has assured Bangladesh that it will talk to Myanmar to resolve the Rohingya crisis by starting the repatriation of the persecuted people to their homeland in Rakhine.
The assurance came on Monday during a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, when the former sought cooperation from Russia in resolving the Rohingya crisis, Foreign Ministry said.
The Russian Foreign Minister was scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on November 23 to attend the 22nd Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers summit, but his visit was cancelled at the eleventh hour because of a busy schedule.
Expressing regrets for the cancellation of his visit, Lavrov expressed his willingness to pay a visit to Bangladesh ‘very soon,’ the ministry said.
In addition, both ministers highlighted the bilateral issues and expressed their eagerness to take this tie to the new height.
Expressing gratitude, Dr Momen mentioned the role of the former Soviet Union during the liberation war of Bangladesh.
Both the leaders also talked about mutual cooperation on various issues at different international platforms including the United Nations.
On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Foreign Minister sent felicitations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
On the other hand, Dr Momen thanked Russia for its cooperation to construct the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
On behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasian, He also invited the Russian President to visit Bangladesh.
