Sit for polls time government to save people: Ex IGP

Staff Reporter :
Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) A.K.M Shahidul Hoque urged the two political parties (Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP) to sit for negotiation before the next parliamentary polls held peacefully.
He said it in a programme titled ‘Independent Election Commission vs Relevance of Caretaker Government’ held on Sunday at Jatiya Press Club’s Abdus Salam Hall.
The former IGP said referring to BNP that it is not a wise decision as you are saying that you won’t take part in the next polls. You have to sit with the government. What is your polls time government format, tell the government?
“To refrain from the election is not the beauty of democracy. You did not take part in the 2014 national election, but it was held. World communities have recognized the government. The 2022 Awami League is more powerful than the 2014 Awami League.”
Shahidul Hoque said if you want to bring back the care taker government then go to the court. Is it possible adding care taker government issue in constitution without court verdict? He asked.
He said it is not logical that you want to do politics in the country but deny the court verdict.
He said, there is no chance for the caretaker who has left to comeback. Now you think about how to conduct fair and impartial election, how to conduct fair election?
Chairman of Bangladesh Islami Front MA Matin presided over the meeting and Secretary General of Bangladesh Islami Front Abdus Samad and others were also present.
