How Fardin's body ended up to Shitalakhya

Police struggling to crack the mystery

Syed Shemul Parvez :
Police are probing into the death of BUET student Fardin Noor Palash whose body was found in the Shitalakshya River, behind a cotton mill at Siddhirganj, on November 7, three days after he went missing.
Fardin’s father Nuruddin Rana filed a case against his son’s friend Amatullah Bushra, a third-year student of East West University, and several unidentified people in connection with the death with Rampura police station.
Following the filing of the case, police arrested Bushra from her house at Dhaka’s Banasree area.
She was placed on a five-day remand on Thursday following a court order.
Police have opened investigation suspecting Fardin’s death to be a murder, quizzing Bushra and related people and checking the call list of his mobile phone.
But they are struggling to crack the mystery as to how the body of Fardin ended up to Shitalakhya when his last location was tracked in Gazipur before he went missing on November 4, police sources said.
The New Nation contracted several high officials of Detective Branch of police yesterday to know about the latest development of Fardin’s murder case, but they denied disclosing any information.
“I believe police will find clues of Fardin murder after checking his phone call records, SMS, location tracing, CCTV footage and analyzing all the circumstances ,” Noor Uddin Rana, father of Fardin, told The New Nation. Fardin left home Konapara at around 3:30pm on 4 November for the BUET dormitory. He was supposed to stay at the hall on Friday and return home after the examination on Saturday.
Later, Fardin’s family learned that he didn’t appear in the examination. The family tried to contact him but found his mobile phone switched off. They couldn’t trace his whereabouts.
“We have full confidence in the country’s law and justice. We hope the detectives will unearth the real fact behind the killing of my son, cracking all the mystery,” said Noor Uddin, who is an editor of business newspaper ‘The Riverine’.
When asked about Bushra, he said, “Actually, we don’t know her as a girl friend of Fardin before. Even she was not familiar to my family. As my son was a student of BUET and he had a lot of involvement with various extra curriculum activities including Debate. So, he may be in touch with girls like Bushra.”
“She was made prime accused in the case as my son passed the whole day on November 4.”
This correspondent yesterday visited the BUET campus and talked with some of the Fardin’s varsity friends.
They said Fardin was very gentile in nature and he had no bad habits like taking drugs or smoking. “He had no love affair with any girl, but he had friendship with few girls and Bushra was one of them,” they added.
Tahmid Hossain, Student of BUET, and also ex- Joint Secretary of BUET Debate Club said: “We never saw Fardin was involved in any wrongdoing. Even we didn’t know about his relationship with a girl. Whenever asked about it, he always denied the issue.”
When asked, Bushra’s uncle M Mazhar claimed that his niece is completely innocent and she did not do any harm to Fardin.
“Bushra is a victim of circumstances. We believe that she will get bail after a proper investigation,” he added.
