No mega projects before next polls

In the wake of foreign currencies reserve crisis, the government has decided not to take any mega projects in this time.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that the government would not take any fresh mega project before the next national polls.
He said, “There is a directive from the Prime Minister that no plan of taking any mega projects before the next national polls which will be held in December, 2023 or January, 2024.”
The AL General Secretary said it while inaugurating the two lanes of the flyover under Bus Rapid Transit Project in Tongi of Gazipur.
The Minister expressed sorrow over the suffering of people caused by the under-construction BRT project.
He said already 80 per cent work of the project has been completed and the sufferings will end soon. The Awami League General Secretary said, “BNP had not taken any mega project and during their tenure no development work was done.”
He said, “Who will go to power, people will decide.’ State Minister for Youth and Sports, Zahid Ahsan Russell said in the event that people of 37 districts will be benefited after opening of the two lanes.
Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Commissioner (traffic) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said traffic congestion will be reduced and the passengers will easily reach their destinations using the flyover.
Under the 20.5km project of BRT, a 4.5km elevated expressway, six elevated stations, ten lanes Tongi Bridge is under construction involving Tk 4268.32 crore.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman, among others, were present in the event.
