A case was filed against at least 130 BNP activists including its Foreign Affairs Committee member Ishraque Hossain on the charge of vandalising the local Awami League Office of Gournadi Upazila in Barisal on Saturday.
The case was registered by the Jubo League President of Mahilara Union of the Upazila Rasel Radi against 70 BNP activists with the names while 60 anonymous persons.
About the lawsuit, Inspector (investigation) of Gournadi Model Station Helal Uddin said, “A number of people including the plaintiff were staying in front of Mahilara Bazar around 6am. Suddenly, a motorcade numbering 70/75 vehicles parked at the Bazar on Barishal-Dhaka Highway. Then BNP activists from the motorcade vandalised the Awami League office in the market.”
The statement also said that the attackers also vandalised seven motorcycles and tried to set them on fire. Besides, three people including a Jubo League Joint General Secretary of Mahilara Union Bilas Kabiraj was also attacked on head, it added.
The case was filed under penal code and the Explosive Substance Act, police said.
Earlier on Saturday, Ishraque Hossain claimed nine BNP people were injured when his motorcade came under attack on the way to the BNP’s divisional rally in Barisal city on Saturday.
A number of vehicles of the motorcade were vandalised during the attack when they reached Mahilara Bazar on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, BNP has rescheduled the rally in Sylhet on November 19, instead of November 20 owing to HSC examinations on the same day, BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said this at a press conference held at a hotel in Sylhet city on Sunday.
“The new date has been set because Sylhet Metropolitan Police has prohibited holding the rally on Sylhet Alia Madrasa ground on November 20 because of HSC examination on the same date,” he added.
About the rally gathering, he said that they were expecting more than 450,000 people in the rally and BNP would make the rally successful defying all obstacles.
